Is there still a glass ceiling? Well, men do earn more and are much more likely than their equally talented female counterparts to end up in the executive suite. So what's a girl to do?
Here are some words of wisdom that many top-level women execs are sending down the ladder to their female underlings:
Find Advocates
This is not the age of Cinderella. Identifying people who can help you strategize about your reputation and put good words about you in the right places is essential.
Be Yourself
If you try to model yourself after others, you'll be found out for sure. Spend some time with a coach or counselor who can help you scrape away any last shreds of self-doubt that could tempt you to tinker with your essential identity.
Invite Constructive Criticism
Ask for feedback from everyone whose opinions you trust. If nobody is critiquing your performance and sharing suggestions with you, then you're missing out on the most important information you can have.
Demonstrate What You Can Do
Don't wait passively to have your strengths discovered.
Build Up Your Endurance
Hopefully, you'll be smart enough to create a sane and habitable life for yourself, but inevitably the time will come when you have to go those extra miles and manage trying situations. Be in training for those times and stay resilient by eating well, exercising, playing enough and getting plenty of sleep.
